WordPress heatmaps

A WordPress heatmap with no plugin to keep updated.

Maximizii is one line of script, so there’s nothing that has to run inside WordPress and nothing to update. Add it however you already add scripts to your site.

In short

To add a heatmap to WordPress, paste Maximizii’s one-line script into your site’s head. Your theme, a header-and-footer snippet plugin or Google Tag Manager will all do. The processing happens on our side, so there’s no load on your database.

Three ways to add it

  1. A snippet plugin

If you already use a plugin for inserting header code, paste the line there. It’s the simplest choice, and it survives theme updates.

  2. Google Tag Manager

Add a Custom HTML tag with the line, set it to fire on all pages, and publish.

  3. Your theme

In a child theme, add it through the wp_head hook, so a theme update won’t remove it.

Add this to your site

Things to know on WordPress

  • Caching plugins are fine. The line is static, and all the counting happens in the visitor’s browser, so page caching doesn’t affect it. If your plugin combines or delays scripts and maps stay empty, exclude this script.
  • Leave wp-admin out. The script only runs where you put it. If it’s also on other paths you’d rather not measure, list them under “Leave out” in Settings.
  • WooCommerce pages work like any others, and what people type at checkout is never collected. To blank a part of a page such as an order summary, add data-mz-mask to it.
  • Page builders work too, since maps are drawn from a picture of the finished page, whichever tool made it.

Questions

Is there a WordPress plugin?

There’s no Maximizii plugin, and you don’t need one. It’s one line of script, which you can add with any plugin that inserts header code.

Will it slow down my WordPress site?

It’s under 6 KB gzipped and loads async. It adds nothing to your server or your database, since it runs in the visitor’s browser and sends its data to us.

Does it work with WooCommerce?

Yes, on any page that carries the script. Nothing typed into forms is collected.

Can I use it on more than one WordPress site?

Yes. An account can have up to 10 sites, each with its own snippet.
