Microsoft Clarity is free, with heatmaps, session replay, funnels and native mobile SDKs. Hotjar, now part of Contentsquare, adds surveys and the wider Contentsquare platform. Choose Clarity for free replay. Choose Contentsquare if you need surveys and journey analysis. Neither is needed if you only want maps.

Contentsquare if you need surveys, journeys and experiments together, or you’re already a Hotjar customer.

Is Clarity better than Hotjar?

For free session replay, it’s hard to beat. For surveys and the wider platform, Hotjar’s successor Contentsquare offers more. It depends on what you’ll actually use.

Can you use Hotjar and Clarity together?

They can run side by side, though there’s usually little reason to pay the extra page weight and consent work of both.

Is Hotjar still available?

Existing users can still log in, but new accounts go through Contentsquare, by its own account.
