Hotjar alternative

A Hotjar alternative for people who only want the maps.

Hotjar is now part of Contentsquare, and new accounts are created there. If you came for heatmaps, and don’t need replay or surveys, Maximizii is a much smaller thing to adopt.

In short

Hotjar has merged into Contentsquare, and it’s no longer possible to create a new Hotjar account. Maximizii is a heatmap-only alternative: click, scroll and attention maps, no cookies, no session replay and a script under 6 KB. Choose Contentsquare if you want replay and surveys beside your maps.

What happened to Hotjar

hotjar.com now redirects to Contentsquare, which describes the two as merged into one platform. Existing Hotjar users log in with the same details, and new users sign up on Contentsquare. So if you were about to start with Hotjar, your real choice is Contentsquare or something else. There’s a separate page on Contentsquare.

When to stay with them

  • You watch session recordings regularly. Maximizii will never replace those.
  • You run on-page surveys.
  • You need to split maps by segment or campaign, which Maximizii can’t do yet.
  • Your app is native, not web.

Moving over

  1. Add the snippet

Put Maximizii’s one line in your page’s head or in Google Tag Manager. It can run beside your current tool.

  2. Let it collect

Maps start from the first visit. Past data doesn’t come across, so give it a week or two.

  3. Check your consent setup

If your banner already handles analytics, add maximizii.consent(true) to what runs on a yes. Here’s how it works.

  4. Remove the old tag

Once the maps tell you what you need, take the old tool’s tag off your pages.
